CHRANZ ANNUAL REPORT 2003/04 AND 2004/05 HOUSING RESEARCH PROGRAMME

09.09.04 :: Terrence Aschoff, Manager CHRANZ

The Centre for Housing Research, Aotearoa New Zealand – Kainga Tipu (CHRANZ) today released its 2003/04 Annual Report.

CHRANZ Chair, Nigel Haworth says it has been a successful year with the delivery of seven research reports on housing in New Zealand.

“This research has identified major trends in the New Zealand housing market; future accommodation options for older people in New Zealand and the need for ongoing research to support housing policy development,” he says.

“Over the next 12 months CHRANZ’s research will focus on the future of home ownership, affordable housing and housing stock suitability. Invitations to tender for this work will be called later this month.”

Mr Haworth says the research over the next year will complement the direction set out in the discussion paper Building the Future: Towards a New Zealand Housing Strategy.

“In particular the research will provide an evidence base that will ensure policy initiatives and interventions are related to the realities of the housing market.”
