SUB-REGIONAL HOUSING DEMAND IN THE NORTHLAND REGION

AIM

The aim of this research is to investigate sub-regional housing demand in Northland to develop a deeper understanding of contemporary and future housing pressures within particular local housing markets.

KEY OBJECTIVES

The project is focused on three Northland sub-regional housing markets:

(i) Kaikohe / Moerewa / Kawakawa and the hinterland;
(ii) Taipa to Mangonui including the hinterland; and
(iii) Hokianga area.

The project has four main objectives. These are to understand:

  1. the relationship between local labour markets and local housing markets;
  2. the net social and economic costs of pressure on high amenity land, especially coastal properties;
  3. rural Māori housing and housing on multiple owned Māori land; and
  4. identify local, regional and central government actions that could affect demand.
